exclusive challenges created and judged by our resident pros

Aug 12 to Sep 27, 2019

COLLECTIVE and Philly have teamed up to bring you the Music Video Challenge. Your job? To create a 60-second music video treatment based on the not-yet-released track M.I.A. by Hawaiian rapper and R&B artist Corey Pieper. We’re equipping you with the track itself and performance footage of Corey—your challenge is to select some of that footage along with a 60-second clip from the audio and weave these ingredients into your own b-roll to create the M.I.A storyline or vibey edit. Whichever way you want to take it—get creative, be original, and have fun!

As for the winner, here’s where it gets really good. First, there’s over $10K in gear and prizes to be had. Next—working with Philly and Corey, you’ll collaborate, co-direct, and help publicly launch the full-length music video using your original concept as the creative inspiration. Wondering what kind of audience awaits? Corey has been featured by MTV, BET, and Bravo and has shared the stage with G-Eazy, Nick Cannon, O.T. Genasis, Ace Hood, Ginuwine, and more.

In other words, the winner, consider your work exposed.

Are you ready for this? Let’s do it.

  • 25% Cinematography - Shot selections should show versatility while maintaining a consistent aesthetic.
  • 25% Editing & Color Grade - Pace of cuts and scene colors should be complementary and provide an overall tone to the work.
  • 25% Tempo Flow - The slowing down and speeding up of cuts should display a variety of editing techniques while maintaining the viewer’s attention.
  • 25% Innovation & Creativity - We’ll be looking for that special spark, that unique something, that underscores your creative style—whether through editing, animation, effects or otherwise. In other words, don’t hold back. Show us who you are!
